Diwali 2026 Date & Lakshmi Puja Muhurat

Diwali 2026 falls on 8th November 2026 (Sunday). Lakshmi Puja is performed during Pradosh Kaal on Amavasya — typically between sunset and midnight. The exact muhurat varies by city. The Sthir Lagna muhurat (when Lakshmi is believed to settle permanently) is considered the most auspicious time to perform the puja.

Diwali Lakshmi Puja Vidhi — Step by Step

Step 1: Clean and Decorate Your Home

Begin with a thorough cleaning of your home. Lakshmi enters clean, well-lit, and welcoming homes. Decorate with rangoli at the entrance, hang marigold torans on the door, and place diyas at the doorstep, windows, and puja room.

Step 2: Place Lakshmi Charan Paduka

Place Lakshmi Charan Paduka stickers from the main entrance to the puja room — symbolising Maa Lakshmi walking into your home.

Step 3: Set Up the Puja Sthal

Place a red cloth on a clean chowki. Place the Lakshmi-Ganesha idol in the centre. Arrange the Copper Kalash to the right, filled with water, mango leaves, coconut, and coins. Place Kamal Gatta, Panchmeva, and offerings around the idol.

Step 4: Invoke Ganesha First

Always begin with Ganesha puja. Offer Akshat, Roli, Chandan, and flowers while chanting "Om Gan Ganapataye Namah."

Step 5: Lakshmi Puja

Offer flowers, Roli, Chandan, Kamal Gatta, Panchmeva, Batashe, and Kheel to Maa Lakshmi. Light the Akhand Diya with Desi Ghee — kept burning through the night. Sprinkle Gangajal on all offerings.

Step 6: Read the Lakshmi Puja Katha

Download the Maha Lakshmi Vrat Katha eBook (₹49) — complete katha, vidhi, mantras, and aarti in Hindi and English.

Step 7: Perform the Aarti

Perform Lakshmi Aarti (Om Jai Lakshmi Mata) and Ganesh Aarti with lit Bhimseni Kapoor. Ring the puja bell and sing the aarti aloud.

Step 8: Distribute Prasad

Distribute Batashe, Kheel, Panchmeva, and fruits as prasad to all family members.
