Karwa Chauth Vrat Vidhi — Step by Step

Before Sunrise: Sargi

Before sunrise, the mother-in-law prepares a Sargi thali for her daughter-in-law. Dry fruits are the heart of that thali — a Vratam Dry Fruit Falhari Mixture (₹360) is an easy way to put it together — because it has to carry her through the whole day. In households that follow nirjala practice, the fast continues until the customary moon observance. This is not a universal requirement for every reader; choose an appropriate observance with your family and professional guidance where needed.

Step 1: Morning Sankalp

Wake before sunrise, take a bath, and wear festive clothes — traditionally red or pink. Apply sindoor and take a sankalp for your husband's long life.

Step 2: The Daylong Fast

Some households traditionally observe nirjala (without food or water), while others follow an adapted fast. Do not treat this article as an instruction to avoid water, alter prescribed medicine or ignore your health needs. 1. Look at the moon through a chalni (sieve)
2. Then look at your husband's face through the same sieve
3. Offer arghya — water from the Karwa — to the moon
4. Your husband offers water to you and you break your fast

Step 6: Break the Fast

After moon darshan, your husband offers you water and sweets. Enjoy the prasad with the family.
