Bhadrapada — called Bhado, Bhadon or Bhadrav across North India — is the sixth month of the Hindu lunar calendar and the second of the four sacred Chaturmas months. Between the day it starts and the day it ends, you will observe Kajari Teej, Sankashti Chaturthi, Krishna Janmashtami, Aja Ekadashi, Hartalika Teej, Ganesh Chaturthi, Rishi Panchami, Radha Ashtami and Anant Chaturdashi. It ends by handing you straight over to Pitru Paksha.

Radha Rani's appearance day, Radha Ashtami, follows just fifteen days later in the Shukla Paksha. For Vaishnav families, the entire month is a continuous Krishna utsav.

Note on Hartalika Teej: Tritiya tithi ends early on the morning of 14 September 2026, which places Hartalika Teej on 14 September by the udaya-tithi rule followed in most North Indian panchangs. Bhadrapada Niyam: What to Do This Month

• Snan before sunrise. Bathing in the early hours of Bhadrapada is considered especially punya-giving. Add a few drops of Gangajal to your bathing water if a river bath is not possible.
• Worship Krishna, Shiva and Ganesha together. A simple daily offering of water, akshat, chandan and a lit deepak before all three is enough.
• Chant daily. "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya" for Krishna, "Om Gan Ganapataye Namah" for Ganesha, and the Panchakshari "Om Namah Shivaya" — 108 times each, or as many as your day permits.
• Do daan. Donating curd, milk, ghee, grain, or an umbrella during Bhadrapada is traditionally regarded as highly meritorious.

• Griha Pravesh into a new home

Daily Puja Vidhi for Bhadrapada

You do not need an elaborate ritual every day. This ten-minute vidhi is enough to carry the whole month:

1. Wake before sunrise, bathe, and wear clean clothes.
2. Clean the mandir and sprinkle Gangajal over the puja area to purify it.
3. Light a desi ghee deepak and a stick of dhoop or a piece of kapoor.
4. Offer water, then apply chandan and roli tilak to the deities.
5. Offer akshat, fresh flowers, and durva grass to Ganesha; tulsi patra to Krishna.
6. Offer bhog — panchmeva, makhan-mishri, or any simple sattvic prasad.
7. Chant your mantra, then perform aarti with the lit deepak.
8. Close with a short sankalp for your family's wellbeing and distribute the prasad.
