Delhi-NCR: Use Your Own Locality
The Delhi entry is specifically for New Delhi. Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad are separate locations; do not assume a Delhi figure is exact for every NCR address. If your city is absent, select it in a reliable Panchang with the date set to 29 October 2026. India uses one time zone, but geography still changes moonrise.
Moonrise, Puja Muhurat and Chaturthi Are Different
For New Delhi, IST, Drik Panchang lists the evening puja window as 5:38 PM–6:56 PM. Chaturthi begins at 1:06 AM on 29 October and ends at 10:09 PM on 29 October 2026. Both tithi boundaries fall on the same Indian civil date. The evening puja therefore takes place before the Moon reference in the table.
A puja muhurat is a worship window; moonrise is the calendar's lunar-rise reference; Chandra darshan is seeing the Moon from your location. These three should not be used interchangeably. For the earlier part of the day, our Karwa Chauth Sargi timing and thali guide explains the pre-dawn preparation.
Why Do Some Calendars Show a Different Time?
Even one provider can display different figures on different pages. For example, Drik Panchang's general New Delhi astronomy page shows an 8:12 PM reference, while its Karwa Chauth festival page lists 8:17 PM. This article consistently uses the festival-specific figures above. Calculation conventions and selected coordinates can differ; consult the Panchang followed by your family rather than treating an internet countdown as a sighting guarantee.
What If the Moon Is Hidden by Clouds or Buildings?
A listed minute cannot promise a clear view. Haze, cloud cover, trees and neighbouring towers may hide a Moon that has already risen. Choose a safe viewing place beforehand, keep away from terrace edges, and leave room for the family to gather without crowding. A clear photograph from another city does not establish visibility at your own address.
If clouds persist, follow the contingency accepted by your family or local priest. Practices differ about symbolic darshan and concluding the vrat without a visible Moon; no single substitute should be presented as compulsory for everyone. Do not put yourself at risk to obtain a view.
A Calm Chandra Darshan and Arghya Sequence
Karwa Chauth is observed with prayers for a spouse's wellbeing and the strength of family bonds. Many households worship Gauri-Parvati, Shiva and Ganesha, listen to a vrat katha, and conclude with an offering to Chandra. Kartik Krishna Chaturthi in the Purnimanta calendar is called Ashwin Krishna Chaturthi in the Amanta calendar; these names describe the same observance here.
- Complete the evening worship. Arrange your family altar, offer flowers and the customary tilak, and listen to the katha before settling down for moon viewing.
- Keep the thali ready. Place the karwa or water vessel, sieve if customary, sweets and the items your family uses together. Keep the diya attended and on a stable surface.
- Check your city's reference. Allow time for actual visibility rather than rushing to finish at the first listed minute.
- Offer arghya with devotion. After the Moon is seen, offer water respectfully in a suitable place and say the prayer taught in your household. Sieve customs and the order of family gestures vary.
- Conclude according to your sankalp. Follow your household's parana practice with gratitude, then share the prepared meal. Kindness and mutual care belong at the heart of the evening.

Keep These Samagri Together
A karwa or clean water vessel, small thali, flowers, customary sweets, sieve where used, diya, roli and akshat are useful preparations. Roli or kumkum serves the customary tilak, while akshat rice for puja can be kept in a separate small bowl for offerings. Follow family practice; purchasing a new vessel or kit is not a requirement for devotion.
Fasting Traditions
The traditional nirjala observance is a sunrise-to-Moon-sighting fast without food or water. Households also follow adapted observances. This timing guide does not prescribe one fasting form for every person, and a city table is not a reason to ignore individual needs. Agree on your observance and any adaptations beforehand.

When will the Moon rise in Mumbai and Pune?

What are the Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai timings?

Can I break the fast at the exact minute in the table?
Traditional practice connects the conclusion to Moon sighting and arghya. A calendar minute alone does not confirm darshan. Follow the observance and any cloudy-sky alternative accepted by your family.
Can relatives abroad use these Indian timings?
No. This table is for Indian cities in IST. Relatives abroad need a Panchang selected for their actual city, local date and time zone; converting a Delhi clock time is insufficient.
