Frequently asked questions
What if I only know the English date of death?
The death date, local time and place are needed to determine the lunar tithi accurately. This launch version expects you to already know the tithi. A location-aware death-date calculator is being prepared.
What if I do not know the death tithi?
Sarva Pitru Amavasya on 10 October 2026 is traditionally used to honour all ancestors, including those whose precise tithi is not known. Confirm the practice followed by your family.
Why do Chaturthi and Panchami appear on the same date?
A lunar tithi does not begin at midnight and its length is not exactly 24 hours. The Shraddha observance day is selected using its relationship with the local afternoon period, so two observances can occasionally share one civil date.
Are these dates valid outside New Delhi?
They are New Delhi reference dates. In many Indian cities the date will be the same, but local timings—and occasionally the civil date—can differ. Always check the city where the ritual will be performed.
